OUR FARM

Rebecca’s Garden is a small operation located on half an acre of land in beautiful Saanich, British Columbia. The farm produces certified organic and heritage vegetables, berries, flowers, herbs, seeds, plants, preserves and dried products, including over 30 varieties of unique heritage dry beans.

Rebecca’s Garden has two farming locations. One is nestled in the woods, growing berries, greens, roots, brassicas, garlic, flowers, herbs and other shade loving crops. The other is an open south-facing slope, growing the bean crops and other sun loving vegetables, such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, melons and squash.

To purchase produce, visit us at the Moss Street Market on Saturdays from the beginning of April until the end of October.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The seed crops are grown at both farms, working with nature. Seed is saved to maintain some of the wonderful older varieties which are disappearing from the commercial market. All varieties of seed are open pollinated and have great taste, well suited for the backyard garden. Locally produced seed is acclimated to the Pacific marine environment and is ideal for coastal areas. Seed saving is an intensive process involving time, patience and a bit of love.

The plants are started from certified organic seed, almost entirely from Rebecca’s Garden saved seeds. Some begin life in the late winter and early spring. Flowers and herbs are planted with bees, butterflies and hummingbirds in mind offering them sustenance in the garden. Vegetable starts are grown throughout the late winter and summer season for succession planting. Plants are offered for sale in the spring and summer after being hardened off and ready to plant out in the garden.

The preserves are produced from certified organic produce grown on the farm, except for tree fruit crops that are purchased locally when possible or from a certified organic grower in the Similkameen Valley, BC. Offerings include jams, jellies, marmalades, chutney, pickles, salsas, spices, dried beans, dried tomatoes, dried fruits, dried peppers and smoked chiles. Speciality items include Chili Flakes, Chili Powder and Smoked Paprika made from Rebecca’s Garden’s own peppers, as well as Brandied Cherries or Peaches and Apple Pear Mince.

All products are offered for sale, locally in Victoria, BC, by emailing or contacting us, and on Saturdays at the Moss Street Market and from the farm by appointment.

Rebecca’s Garden is Certified Organic by Islands Organic Producers Association, IOPA # 1503.
