Pisum sativum var. sativum
This pea, called the ‘blue shuckers’, is delightful, a purple podded pea that is absolutely delicious when served in the traditional Dutch manner. Fresh or dried and soaked overnight then pan-fried with bacon and onions, cooking till peas are tender. Purple pods are very eye catching in the garden and when very young can be used fresh as a snow or edible pod pea.
