CHARD Rhubarb
Beta vulgaris
Deep crimson stalks and leaf veins contrasting with dark greenish-bronze leaves slightly crumpled. Great as a true red colour in salad mixes with small leaves or cook large leaves like spinach and the stems like asparagus. Very ornamental in the garden with the contrasting colours of leaf and stem. Plant after danger of frost as excess cold can cause premature bolting to seed.
